Dental Fears Can Affect Anyone

Fear has no boundaries.  It can affect all types of people.  Research shows that almost 30% of our population avoids going to the dentist due to fear.  Fairview Dental Care realizes that a huge segment of our population is in desperate need of our service but is too afraid to seek us out.  It is easy to see why sedation dentistry is a safe, non judgmental, pain free experience that would be a welcome change to the anxiety-stricken patient. We do take your fear seriously, and we know you’re not being irrational and we care about your emotional needs as well as your dental needs.  Fairview Dental care has taken the time to actively listen to those who have avoided dentistry for years because of intense, realistic, palm -sweating, sick-to-the-stomach, eye-popping, and sleep depriving fear and that is why we have decided to add the sedation option to all of our treatment plans.

Who is a candidate for conscious sedation?

Any patient that would like to feel at ease during any appointment.  You don’t just have to be fearful, but we do recommend it for the following patients:

•  Patient’s that have severe gag responses
•  Anxious, Phobic, and Fearful Patients
•  Local Anesthetic Patient (those who can’t get “numb”)
•  Time constraint appointments
•  Complex restorative Patients
•  Post Operative Pain Sensitive Patients
   

Why should I choose oral sedation?

It makes easy and comfortable dentistry possible.

Our goal is to create the relaxed and comfortable appointment possible, while the patient remains awake and conscious. However, many sedated patients feel like they slept through the entire appointment since they have little to no memory of the appointment.  We create a relaxed comfortable environment where a patient will experience little or no anxiety with little or no memory of the appointment.

What do I have to do to prepare for the appointment?

Patients will receive directions on how to take the medication prescribed at your consultation appointment and will also have a phone conference the day before your appointment to go over any question that you may have.  All that we ask is for you to follow our directions and make sure that you have someone to drive you to and from your appointment. We have a 24 hour emergency line to call if any problems should arise.
